Abstracts

Presenting author: The author that plans to present the work in person during the conference. Presenting authors must be the first author on the submitted abstract.

Non-presenting author: Additional authors contributing to the presented work, that would not be presenting during the conference.

Abstract submission limit: Each presenting author may submit a maximum of TWO abstracts in total, across all  tracks (Poster: New Idea, Poster: New Results, Flash Talk, and Symposium). Abstracts submitted by the same presenting author must reflect two different research projects. There is no abstract limit for non-presenting authors.

SAS uses an electronic process for abstract submissions. When preparing an abstract for submission, carefully follow the instructions below:

1. All submissions must report work that is unpublished or in press at the time of submission
2. Each presenting author can submit a maximum of two abstracts in total, across all tracks – Flash Talk, Poster New Results, or Poster New Idea, or Symposium (i.e., presenting authors are allotted only two speaking roles during the conference). There is no limitation for non-presenting authors.
3. All submissions must be written in English (US spelling).
4. Select FOUR keywords: TWO relating to content and TWO relating to methods associated with the submission. Select keywords carefully as they will be used to match your submission with two reviewers from our Abstract Review Board.
5. Proofread your submission! All accepted submission summaries will be posted, as-is, on the SAS website. The SAS Program Committee reserves the right to make editorial corrections to the submitted abstract if necessary. SAS is not responsible for author errors.
6. All correspondence about submissions will be sent to the presenting author ONLY. Please provide the email address that the presenting author will be contactable on post-submission and for the duration of the conference. 7. Please consider submitting well in advance of the deadline! Reminder: There will be no extensions to the submission deadline.

Poster New Idea submissions MUST include:

• Title
• Author names and affiliations (will be redacted during review)
• Summary: 400-character summary for the conference program (not submitted for review)
• Abstract for review: (within 1600 character including spaces, the abstract should include the following information):
  • Background
  • Aims framing the research question or problem
  • Methods planned (where appropriate*)
  • Analyses planned (where appropriate*)
  • Predicted findings (where appropriate*)
  • Conclusions including how the work will make a novel theoretical, methodological, or empirical contribution to affective science
  • OPTIONAL: Acknowledgements (will be redacted for blind review)
  • OPTIONAL: References
  • OPTIONAL: authors can choose to upload one figure in PDF format (1 page)
  • Please note: Submissions must include the planned sample size of each study (where appropriate*)

*Abstracts that present theoretical contributions need not include this information.

Symposium

Symposia are a set of talks providing an in-depth perspective on individual research areas/topics within affective science. Symposia sessions may be comprised of 3 talks with a discussant or 4 talks (no discussant). All symposia must be chaired by the submitting author.

• Title of symposium (IN ALL CAPS)
• Chair of the symposium. The chair does not need to be one of the presenting authors. However, the submission of the symposium should be completed by the chair.
• Discussant of the symposium. (only relevant for symposia with 3 talks)
• Summary of the symposium: 400-character (including spaces) summary for the conference program.
• Symposium abstract detail/overview (1600 characters, including spaces): describing how the symposium makes a novel theoretical, methodological, and/or empirical contribution to affective science (submitted for review)
• Abstract for each talk for review (within 1600 character including spaces), the abstract should include the following information:
  • Title for each talk
  • Presenting author
  • Background
  • Aims framing the research question or problem
  • Methods (including sample size, if relevant)*
  • Results (including at least one statistic, if relevant)*
  • Conclusions including how the work makes a novel theoretical, methodological, and/or empirical contribution to affective science for each talk.
  • Please note, should the symposium be accepted: individual talk authors will be required to submit 400 character summaries, co-author names and affiliations via a separate submission portal which will be emailed directly to the chair of the symposium.
  • Should the symposium not be accepted: individual talk authors have the option for their papers to be considered for a poster or flash talk. Please be sure to indicate the preference for each individual abstract in the question area after the author section.

*Abstracts included within a symposium that present theoretical contributions or reflect disciplines that diverge from these reporting standards need not include this information.
